Bridge History
Erasmusbrug was designed by the famous architect Ben van Berkel of UNStudio. Construction began in 1986 and the bridge was officially opened in 1996 by Queen Beatrix. The bridge is named after Desiderius Erasmus, the famous humanist and theologian from the 15th century. With a length of 802 meters and a width of 33 meters, it is an impressive structure that has significantly changed Rotterdam's skyline.
